Film Audio Recut SDX

Fall 2025

Solo Project

This audio project was a two-part exploration of sound design and film editing, consisting of a 20-second short recut and a full one-minute final scene. We were tasked with stripping all original audio from a selected film clip and rebuilding the entire soundscape using only free audio sources from two approved sound libraries. The 20-second recut functioned as a practical rough draft, giving us space to experiment with timing, layering, and emotional tone before expanding those ideas into the complete one-minute version. This process helped establish a clear workflow and provided quick hands-on experience with sound replacement, ambience construction, and music selection.

The project’s primary goal was to teach us how sound shapes narrative, how footsteps, environmental noise, and subtle atmospheric cues can completely redefine the energy of a scene. By approaching the task from a blank-slate perspective, we gained a deeper appreciation for how audio supports pacing, character emotion, and viewer immersion. The challenge involved organizing a wide variety of sound elements, aligning them with on-screen action, and making creative decisions that felt intentional rather than random. Through trial, editing, and refinement, the final deliverable showcased a fully reimagined sound mix that transformed the original scene into something unique, cohesive, and expressive of our own stylistic interpretation.
